Abstract

We prove that if m be a positive integer and X is a totally ordered set, then there exists a function ϕ:X{1,,m} such that, for every interval I in X and every positive integer r|I|, there exist elements x1<x2<<xr of I such that ϕ(xi+1)ϕ(xi)+1(modm) for i=1,,r1.
